Yes it’s a Trainspotting reference, this is my portfolio and I’ll include obscure movie references if I want to.

You know how every time there's a trend, every single brand account hops on the bandwagon and Tweets about the same thing? That's following trends. What I do is help brands act on those moments before the bandwagon arrives.

VALORANT proactive social idea

The internet was a'buzz. The fuse was lit. Kendrick and Drake, two of rap's most influential figures had unleashed the most culturally impactful rap feud of our generation. Not a single brand account had jumped in, not even Duo (yet). But, you're on a page about trendspotting aren't you?

Based on audience insights we knew there was a major overlap between rap and VAL fandom, so we sent over a collection of ideas including suggesting releasing the post at the same time as the track's title, which sparked a new idea from our client. The rest is VALORANT social history reaching 9 million impressions (with 1 million being considered a major win). And yes, we beat Duo's May 5th TikTok to the punch — on May 3rd at 6:16 pm.

Microsoft x Halo proactive social idea

MICROSOFT ADMITS THERE ARE ALIENS

Before the corporate Twitter accounts jumped on the alien bandwagon, I saw Area 51 as a trend and the Warthog as the perfect vehicle for storming the gates. I pitched my team over the weekend then we pitched our Microsoft clients Monday who sent it to the social agency that runs @Halo who went live with it that afternoon.  The vast majority of the rest of the industry began making posts about it Tuesday and in the following weeks. This resulted in Halo’s most popular organic Instagram and Twitter posts at the time.

Thomas' proactive social idea

BEATING MCDONALD'S TO MARS

While I was watching the Mars landing, I noticed something. Our client’s muffin in space. We pitched the idea to our client and launched an hour before @McDonalds made the same joke. The only difference being our account had 47k followers and Mcdonald's had over 5 million. It was one big step for our breakfast food.

Microsoft proactive social idea

I MAKE 5TH GRADERS CRY

When a bright young student messages Microsoft’s corporate account in a desperate attempt to interview her idol…you make it happen. I pitched our clients on connecting the student to her idol via Microsoft Teams, one of their core products. It went on to gain @MicrosoftInCulture its most single-day follower increase, its best performing organic post ever, and an unpaid reshare by NFL Superbowl Coach Katie Sowers and Microsoft’s CEO. But most importantly we helped this young student inspire us all. And I'm proud of that.
